The flesh of the “mamón chino”, exposed when the outer skin is peeled off, is  sweet and sour, slightly grape-like and gummy to the taste. In Costa Rica, it is known as mamón chino (Chinese sucker) due to its Asian origin and the likeness of the edible part with Melicoccus bijugatus.

The company says the drinks are alternatives for hydration and retain natural properties of the elements that compose them.

The product is an infusion of fruits and herbs in hot water to extrat the antioxidant properties and reap the nutritional benefits of tea.

Florida Bebidas says the mamón chino includes vitamin B12.

The new drinks come 500ml and 1L formats, priced at ¢750 and ¢1.100 colones, respectively and sold in Walmart Group stores (Walmart, Mas X Menos and Pali). In July it will be available in other stores across the country and eventually exported to other Central American countries.
