COSTA RICA EXTRA — Costa Rica’s very own Wendy Cruz has won a regional Emmy for her work with the Univision television station KUVN, in Dallas Texas, for her report on the Neighbourhood Defenders (Defensores del Barrio).
The Lone Star Emmy Awards for Texas are given out by National Academy of Television Science and Arts. The award is given out for professional work in TV of the most experienced and talented kind.
The awards are reserved for 13 regions in the United States and are divided into 63 categories. This is Cruz’s first award, although she was nominated for an Emmy in 2009, also with KUVN (Channel 23). The awards were given out at Bayou Music Center in nearby Houston.
Cruz left Costa Rica’s Teletica channel 7 news back in 2007, leaving behind the national television news anchor desk for the U.S.
On her Facebook page, Wendy wrote, “Our work isn’t measured by prizes but one feels a great satisfaction when one receives one…”
Editor’s note: Below is a photo I took of Wendy back in the days when she was at Channel 7. I can remember our many chats when we ran into each other covering news stories. Kudos Wendy!
